Part II: What my friends are buying, September 2022
No one is more excited than I to see what everyone will be wearing this month. No really - what used to be imposter syndrome and the insecurity of not feeling “dressed enough” has flipped on its head, turning into the utmost admiration for and inspiration from my peers.
That’s enough small talk. Here’s what my friends are buying this season:
Ruby Benson - @ragsxruby
What I’m buying this season:
I recently moved this summer and did a significant purge of my belongings - It felt so good to get rid of all of the clutter. In regards to my wardrobe, I'm now focused on only investing in good quality/classic pieces that will stand the test of time - like this Phoebe Philo era Céline grey turtleneck sweater - A classic piece that never goes out of style and is great for the brutal Toronto winters.
At the moment, I'm concentrating on finishing up purchasing furniture/decorations for my new home. I currently have my eyes on this wood slatted bench from the 1970's (or something similar), a lounge chair for my sunroom (maybe something like this Michel Boyer design), Le Creuset Shallow Round French Oven - Artichaut - For all the pasta sauce and soups I'll be making this fall, and some rugs for my bedroom - I really like this one from Nordic Knots.
Recent purchases I love/are proud of:
1. Custom Perfume from Persons of Interest - A local Toronto brand I'm obsessed with. I also have their Incense cones (another must have) and concrete candle in my house. I love all their products
2. My vintage Teak dining set - Got it fully reupholstered and refurbished by a lovely local woodworker!
3. My Custom low profile white oak coffee table by local designer Jeremy Joo
Top 3 wishlist items:
1. A vintage Hermès Kelly 28 in Black with gold hardware - My only 'dream bag'. I don't need a closet full of bags, just a couple classics and I'm set.
2. Oremme Jewelry - 'Fortune Pendant' - Because I'm a true 'horse girl'.
3. Gucci 1953 Horsebit Loafer - A black loafer for fall never goes out of style. I already have a couple pairs, but I may trade them in for these. I absolutely love the classic shape with the subtle hint of 'horse girl' energy from the horsebit detail.

What I’m buying/eyeing/adding to cart for Fall:
Long skirts: I wore long skirts and big t-shirts all summer, and want to wear long skirts and sweaters all Fall! I’m looking for a really flattering black silk skirt
Boots: I don’t really know what boot shape I’m looking for, but I feel like I’ll know it when I see it. Something I can wear every day with a practical heel and knee or calf-high cut
A perfectly cut and oversized white dress shirt: When is this not on a wish list?? Haven’t found it yet
Incense: I love the scent of traditional Armenian Paper, which is what I usually burn, but really want to get more into stick incense for the longer burn time
A new scent: I usually wear Byredo’s Super Cedar but am almost out and excited to try something new. I’m going to go to D.S. & DURGA and see if a scent finds me
Top 3 Wishlist items for the season:
A nice sweater: I’ve never really invested in a good knit sweater (they can be so expensive!) and the sale prices aren’t that good, but I’d love one from Khaite or Toteme. Although I’d be much happier to thrift one!
Miu miu ballet flats or platforms: These might be a flight of fancy, but I’ve been thinking about the Miu Miu ballet flats nonstop for a while now. I remember being obsessed with similar pairs when I was just getting into dressing up in grade 6, so there’s a huge nostalgic element for me. 🩰 I particularly want them in this colourway (although would probably make a more neutral purchase if I ever did)
Navy blue silk trousers: Like these
A tattoo: Lol….jk…..unless??
Recent purchases I’m proud of:
I’d been eyeing this blazer from The Row for a while and finally found it at a great price! The inky blue is very much a neutral and classic for me, and I’m going to have and wear it forever
A new pair of Velvet linen trousers - they’re the perfect, most flattering cut because the pockets are to the front of the pant rather than bulging from the sides. I found the Lemondrop colour on sale at Anthropologie and have been wearing them nonstop since
I haven’t loved a leather jacket in a while, but I love this one and am waiting patiently for it to arrive: a vintage maroon letterman jacket with patches and white snaps
Laurence Fortin-Coté - @laurencefortincote
What I’m buying:
A simple leather loafer! I love the resurgence of preppy style and everything that comes with it. I think a good quality loafer is the perfect addition to my wardrobe and will remain a classic even when the trend isn’t so hot anymore!
Top 3 Wishlist items for the season
A great pair of black wool trousers — I’ve been wanting to add this staple to my wardrobe for many seasons now, but I am yet to find the perfect fitting pair that will go with everything!
A pair of ballet flats — Ballerinas are back and I’m so happy about it! I love how versatile they are and they offer the perfect balance to a more masculine inspired fall look
Recent purchases I’m proud of:
I’ve recently bought myself a second hand pair of white jeans. I know it sounds silly, but finding the right fit can be a real challenge! I love to transition lighter pants into fall by pairing them with heavier knits and wool coats. The fall season is quite short and I take every opportunity I get to wear my favourite summer items for a little bit longer!

Recent purchases:
I got this purse from a Lebanese designer that I just found out about here on my visit to Beirut, and it’s called Sarahs’s Bag. She actually just started making these crochet bags for Chloé (she produces it for them), but she also has her own line of bags and a couple of other things like caftans and whatnot. I found this purse that I loved and actually walked into the store a couple of days ago and wasn’t sure if I was going to get it because I didn’t want to impulse purchase, and I went back to get it because I liked it so much. I feel like it’s going to be so great for an evening out, like for dinner, and it’s great for both winter and summer, so I’m very happy with that purchase.
What’s on my Wishlist:
So I saw this video of Camille Rowe, who I’m obsessed with, she did “7 days of looks” for Vogue. I literally saw this video ten times because I love everything that she puts together. She’s wearing this pair of Roger Vivier velvet flats, and I was never into that vibe - I found it way too much, way too flashy - but the way that she wore it was so effortless and chic, and ever since that video I’m like I need a pair of flats like that. It’s inspired me to get Mary Jane Flats. I’ve done so much research on where to buy from, because the Roger Vivier ones are over a thousand dollars, and then there’s The Row ones, which are beautiful, but also insanely expensive. I think I’m going to still do a bit more of an expensive purchase, but not as expensive as these other brands. There’s a brand called Le Monde Béryl, and they basically only do flats, and they mostly do Mary Janes but in a bunch of materials. I haven’t decided what I’m going to get, but I’m feeling like velvet since we’re headed into the winter.
There’s this jewellery designer in L.A. called Brennan, it’s super tiny. I bookmarked a bunch of their pieces a while ago, and I feel like I want to actually buy something now. I haven’t decided if I want to get something custom made, or if I just want to pick something off [the website].
The last one, which I don’t actually know if I’m going to splurge on because the price just makes me cringe, is from this brand that I discovered over a year ago when it first launched - it might have been two years ago actually, and I’ve wanted it ever since. It’s called High Sport - she makes these pants from a specific fabric that is both very tailored and very soft. She just wants to make everything from this fabric, a little bit like Issey Miyake with Pleats Please, how everything is just all about this fabric (which, by the way, Pleats Please is always on my wish list - I guess you can add that too). Basically she has these crazy pants, they go with everything, she has them in a million different colours, and they’re the perfect going out pant, dinner pant, day pant…literally you name it, you can wear these pants to whatever this occasion is, it’s insane. Honestly, could probably wear these to a wedding. They’re $865, which I don’t know if I can justify, but they’re a huge wish list item.
Anna Pang - @indexseries
What I'm buying this season:
I can't wait to wear the new reversible Minato Top in Oat from Index Series with a pair of full length blue denim pants perhaps from COS and an easy everyday bag like the Kaan bucket tote.
Recent purchases I love/am proud of...
I love my custom reclaimed wood bench recently purchased from Farewell Woodcraft on Etsy. I love that Hardy is a high school teacher and does woodworking as a hobby. Best part is that he takes his boat out searching for wood while cleaning up the waters in Gulfport, Mississippi. Also in love with my mugs from Departo.

What I’m buying this season / recent purchases I love:
I just invested in the new AirPod Max headphones for law school & I am obsessed - the noise cancelation is next level plus they’re CUTE

not yet in my closet but on the way is an incredible Beaufille trench coat. I ordered it in the spring as my law school acceptance treat and it’s arriving this fall (not on www.beaufille.com as it was part of their limited spring pre-order)
Favourite fall purchase of all time has got to be my crock pot — I cook in this all season long
I have two KOTN sweaters on the way as well that are going to be perfect for fall - this one & this one
Recently purchased this Sonya Lee "LOUISE" handbag for all my fall outings
Fall wish list:
The Aime Leon Dore x New Balance Sneaker collab is the fall cool girl shoe of my dreams. One day maybe I can afford them
This Beaufille skirt suit that should be hitting stores soon (their clothes are the stuff dreams are made of)
